Attendance

Why is school attendance so important?

Illness - should I send my child in?

Good attendance in school is crucial for children for several reasons:

1. Academic Achievement: Regular attendance allows students to fully engage in their learning. Research has consistently shown a positive correlation between attendance and academic achievement. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades and have better educational outcomes overall.

2. Continuity of Learning: Consistent attendance ensures that students do not miss out on important lessons, discussions, and activities. Each day of school builds upon the previous one, and missing classes can lead to knowledge gaps and difficulties in keeping up with the curriculum.

3. Social and Emotional Development: School provides a vital social environment where children interact with peers, develop friendships, and learn valuable social skills. Regular attendance allows students to establish and maintain these relationships, contributing to their social and emotional well-being.

4. Habit Formation: Attending school regularly helps children develop important life skills such as responsibility, punctuality, and discipline. By consistently showing up to school on time, children learn the importance of commitment and reliability, which are essential qualities for success in any area of life.

5. Preparation for the Future: Regular attendance in school prepares children for the expectations and responsibilities they will face in higher education and the workforce.

It is important for parents, schools, and communities to prioritise and promote good attendance to ensure that children have the best opportunities for academic success and overall well-being. By creating a culture that values attendance, we can support children in reaching their full potential.
