Behaviour

Tottington Primary School is committed to creating an environment where exemplary behaviour is at the heart of productive learning. Everyone is expected to maintain the highest standards of personal conduct, to accept responsibility for their behaviour and encourage others to do the same. It echoes our values with an emphasis on respectful behaviour; a partnership approach that supports staff and learners.

Children at our school are expected to uphold and demonstrate the four values of our school. We feel these values support our pupils in becoming the best versions of themselves and positive members of our school, local and wider community. These values are:

 Be SAFE

 Be a TEAM PLAYER

 Have a good ATTITUDE

 Show RESPECT

Staff at Tottington Primary School actively promote a positive climate for learning in everything that they do. They understand that their body language, tone of voice, facial expressions, methods of communication and deep understanding of each individual student are critical in promoting the highest standards of behaviour. Staff are also clear that high quality planning, teaching and assessment are key to ensure that students feel settled in school and are able to experience a sense of success, progress and achievement.

In September 2023 we have started to use a new behaviour tracking software called 'Trackit Lights' across the whole school. Trackit Lights is a powerful tool designed to promote, encourage and reward positive behaviour. With Trackit Lights, teachers can easily record and track student behaviour in real-time, allowing us to celebrate successes and identify areas of improvement.

How does it work?

When children demonstrate being a ‘TPS STAR’ or demonstrate any green behaviours, they are rewarded with points which are logged on the system. When children collect green points, these go towards Trackit Light certificates and awards.

The system also tracks unwanted behaviours and these are grouped into 3 categories. Sanctions will be given to children dependent on what they have done and the colour/category of the behaviour.

Amber – Stage 2

Yellow – Stage 3

Red – Stage 4

Children will always be given opportunities to turn around their behaviour and each day is seen as a fresh start.

When pupils have specific challenges or needs that may affect their ability to moderate their own behaviour, the approaches used by staff will reflect this.
