Pupil Leaders
At Tottington Primary school we provide an array of opportunities for children to take on responsibilities and be pupil leaders both in school and also our local community. We feel that the skills and qualities children gain from carrying out these roles enable them to become effective members of our school and the wider community, now and in the future.
Computing Champions
Welcome to the Computing Champions Page
We're excited to introduce you to our team of tech-savvy students from Key Stage 2, known as the Computing Champions. These talented youngsters are on a mission to bring the digital world to life at our primary school, making technology an engaging and integral part of our educational journey.
Why Do We Have Computing Champions?
Our Computing Champions program is founded on the belief that our students possess the potential to thrive in the digital landscape, provided they have the opportunity and empowerment to do so. The Computing Champions meet regularly to discuss and enhance our computing curriculum, ensuring it remains dynamic and relevant. At TPS, we are committed to harnessing the power of the computing curriculum to empower our students, not just in their educational journey but also in their future careers.
Paving the Way to Future Careers
To help our students grasp the impact of computing on future careers, we've established strong connections with educational technology companies and have even had the privilege of visiting the headquarters of TTS Resources. During our visit to TTS, our champions had the unique opportunity to participate in board meetings and gain valuable insights into how educational resources transition from concept to the classroom.
In September 2023, we were honored to host Google Consultant and Entrepreneur, Tara Jones. Tara is a prominent figure in the field of educational technology, and she shared her invaluable insights with our computing team, setting them on a path to explore the exciting world of education technology at the primary school level.
School Council
Our Vision
We believe that all children at TPS should have a voice. they should be actively involved in improving our school, as well as helping to make a positive contribution to the local community and wider world.

Our Aims for 2024 -2025
- To try and improve our school and make it a better place for everyone.
- To connect with our local community.
- To make a positive contribution to society by raising money for those in need.
Peer Mediators
We have a team of children from Year 5 and 6 who are trained to be Peer Mediators. They help make our lunchtimes a happier place for our children by mediating conflicts that children may have with their friends.
Why do we have peer mediators?
It is not about removing power and control from staff, it’s about believing in the children and their ability to resolve their own conflicts when empowered to do so – it’s amazing just how capable young children can be.
Pupils can choose to go to Peer Mediators rather than school staff. This frees up staff time, allowing them to focus on other priorities, whilst also enabling children to learn how to resolve their own conflicts. Whilst the impact is not easy to measure, what we do see is a decrease in incidents and happier children. Teaching staff regularly tell us that they are no longer having so many issues coming back into the classroom after lunch-break and children are coming back ready to learn.
Reading Buddies
Reading is a priority at our school and we work hard to ensure that all children become fluent readers. To support our early reading offer, children from Year 5/6 listen to and support our younger children in Reception and Key stage 1 with their reading. This is loved by both the older and younger children. Not only do children get the opportunity to develop their reading skills but positive links and relationships are made between children from different phases within our school.

Door Monitors
Our door monitors ensure we keep our children safe at lunchtimes by monitoring the flow of children inside the school building during these times.

Play Leaders
We have a team of Play Leaders on our playground each lunchtime. They set up a wide range of games with play equipment for children to play on our playground and field. They also organise and lead games with younger children.

Curriculum Ambassadors
We value the views and ideas that our pupils have about the curriculum on offer at our school. We have created a team of curriculum ambassadors from across the school who we meet with regularly to listen to their views on the curriculum and any ideas they may have on how this can be developed or enhanced further. We currently have Reading, Writing and Maths ambassadors.
